Thousands Of Israel-Palestine Digital Materials Uploaded On Alex For Permanent Storage
More than 8,000 digital materials about the Israel-Palestine war have been uploaded in the pool created on Alex to archive contents with the aim of preserving history, preventing future manipulations, and if possible, preventing a repeat.
The pool which was created on Oct. 9 has images and videos of events from the war including abducted Israelis, captured Hamas fighters, bombardment of Palestine by Israel as well as attacks on Israel by Hamas. The contents were uploaded by community members.
“This permanent archive stored on Arweave ensures that future generations can access this immutable information,” Alex stated in a post on X, urging everyone to contribute to the pool.
The founder of Arweave and CEO of Forward Research Sam Williams, in a post about the effort to create the pool and digital materials uploaded, said “These events are barbaric and deserve to be remembered”.
“Indeed. We must be able to see the past with clarity in order to minimize the likelihood that atrocities are repeated,” Williams affirms.
Jshaw, the founder of Facts Lab opined that the Israel-Palestine pool is a good use of the Arweave Blockchain.
“For generations to come, people will be able to analyze what's taking place. If we're lucky, this will help prevent barbaric acts from taking place in the future. We will remember,” Jshaw said.
The pool has 8,419 artifacts as of the time of writing. The war is in its first week, it is expected that if the violence continues, the pool will grow.
This is not the first time issues with regional and global significance are archived on Arweave. In 2022, following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, Arweave offered a $100,000 grant to developers to build information archiving projects.
On Alex, a pool is a topic, event, or idea that can be digitally and publicly archived. Anyone can create a pool and earn rewards.
Alex’s work is significant because contents domiciled on the regular internet are prone to being tampered with and vanishing after some years. Alex stores digital content on Arweave which guarantees 200 years of storage on the network.
