Alex Archive Planning A ‘Poolathon’ In 2024

Decentralised archiving platform, Alex Archive has plans to organize what it calls a ‘poolathon’ which bears semblance in principle to a hackathon, a move which could see more pools being created, the platform disclosed, noting that plans were still being worked on.
Alex Archive revealed this plan during an X space organised by the Weavers Community with the theme: a chat on preserving human history on Arweave. The project also said that in addition to pools being created, there would be a bounty for developers. The event is expected to be held in January.
“We want to start a poolathon where people can go and start a new pool and start archiving. Also we are trying to do like a bounty to pay out to if someone like a developer is interested in archiving a specific source, we want to make our mining tool open source so anyone can go and implement a new archiving source,” Alex, a representative of the Alex Archive said.
A pool is a topic, event or idea that can be digitally and publicly archived by anyone. An operator creates a pool and mines artifacts into it. An aritfact is a permanently preserved piece of digital content, including documents, books, images, audio, or videos. These artifacts are deployed as assets to Arweave and distributed to the contributors based on the amount of $AR contributed.
Several pools have been created on Alex Archive which was inspired by the Great Library of Alexandria. Some of the pools include Zero-Covid which references the Chinese government’s Covid Zero policy; Are We Alone, which references the existence of aliens and sightings of unidentified flying objects; Israel-Palestine conflict; Public Domain History Books.
