RSS3 Releases Mainnet Roadmap
RSS3, an information protocol that helps developers to build applications, features and protocols with information from permissionless networks such as Arweave, Farcaster and more than one 100 others has announced a mainnet roadmap.
The roadmap by RSS3 will begin from Alpha to Beta before a full scale launch of mainnet. The protocol also hinted at what the future of RSS3 mainnet will look like. RSS3 has been building its network in preparation for mainnet for the last two years and half. The mainnet is set to begin in 2024.
The first phase in the roadmap is the Mainnet Alpha which will onboard nodes. Mainnet Alpha according to RSS3, will launch in the first two months of 2024. RSS3 said in a blog post that any node operator could set up a node but noted that for a start, they will operate as “warm-up” runners.
“ These nodes are not technically the serving nodes backing the network - they are warm-up runners that will be rewarded as part of the tokenomics. These nodes will evolve with the development of the Mainnet and eventually transition into fully qualified RSS3 Serving Nodes,” it stated.
An Alpha tokenomics will be used in this phase and it will evolve as the Mainnet matures. Alpha tokenomics will serve as a means to incentivise the RSS3 community to participate in important aspects of the network, RSS3 stated.
Also in the Alpha phase, RSS3 will be launching the Value Sublayer (VSL) which is an Ethereum layer two that enables the RSS3 Network to handle smart contract. The VSL platform built with Celestia, allows network settlements and can be used by developers to build search engines, explorers and activity feeds.
“This means access to Open Information is truly democratized, and developers building on the Value Sublayer will enjoy ~100x less fees,” RSS3 stated.
RSS3’s Mainnet Beta phase is driven by the idea to evolve, enhance and expand the network. This phase is expected to have commenced by April 2024. The network plans to take a step towards decentralisation by introducing Public Good Nodes. These nodes’ roles will be to contribute to the network by indexing and structuring information and responding to requests.
“However, they will not get rewards from any party - as the name suggests, they exist for Public Goods provision,” RSS3 stated about Public Good Nodes.
Although the Public Good Nodes will not be a part of the tokenomics, they can still be trusted. Members of the community can delegate their tokens to Public Good Pool and trust specific Public Good Nodes for the scalability and security of the network. There will also be an integration between VSL and Celestia for data availability and to ensure lower transaction cost.
The full scale deployment of the Mainnet Network will be before the end of June 2024. In this phase, the permissionless serving nodes and the full tokenomics will be operating fully. Node operators will be able to deploy any type of serving nodes to the RSS3 Network and get rewarded for the work they did. The tokenomics outlined in the proposal will also fully operational. RSS3 said a grant proposal would be introduced to attract more Open Web builders.
RSS3 hinted that the future of the mainnet will involve enhancing the Nodes for sophisticated applications. The protocol will be working to make algorithm modules open and transparent for Nodes to adopt and build on. Search engines could also be smarter, more open and more customisable by leveraging the wide range of information the Nodes cover. Nodes in the RSS3 network will be able to build local artificial intelligence models using the data at their disposal.
