Eight months after it launched the first version of the Universal Data Licence (UDL), Forward Research, a development incubator for Arweave has released version 0.2 of the UDL which it says empowers creators in the artificial intelligence era.
The key feature of version 0.2 is the artificial intelligence tag. The feature enables creators to license their work for use in AI-driven content creation.
Unlike what is obtainable in Web2 where creators do not get rewards for their works, UDL enables creators to get paid based on terms the owner of the content defined. With version 0.2, creators of AI content can get paid directly for their work.
“This advancement marks a significant leap forward, bridging the gap between creators and the ever-growing field of AI content generation,” Forward Research stated.
Another feature is ‘pay per access’. This feature allows content creators to pay for their works on a per-view basis. Forward Research said the feature offers flexibility in monetisation strategies.
“With the "pay per access" feature, creators can now capitalize on each viewing, ensuring fair compensation for their creative endeavors,” it stated.
The UDL platform has also be upgraded to allow easier navigation by modifying specific formats of fees from the previous version.

Forward Research said version 0.2 was based on feedback it got from digital creators on how UDL could serve them better.
“UDL v0.2 brings forth some innovative features designed to further empower creators and improve ease of use…With each iteration, we strive to push the boundaries of possibility, empowering creators to thrive in an environment where their voices are heard, their contributions are valued, and their rights are guaranteed,” it stated.
