Thiago Ferreira, co-founder of Fair Protocol, a project that promotes equal access and transparency in the development and deployment of artificial intelligence technology, has said the development of AI should not be stopped because of the uncertainty around it.
Ferreira offered his opinion on the Permaweb Frontiers podcast that he was not in favour of signing the letter to stop AI from going on because of uncertainty about how things would go, stressing that it was important for things to be thought out and not to stop progress.

“I’m always in favour of progress. We just need to figure it out. How to make proper progress and how to make accountability. That is why open source even in operations is important,” Ferreira said. “Accountability and ways of figuring out if everything is okay. And with the transparent and open source AI, at least, you can see its flaws and you can correct them eventually.”
In April 2023, Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and ceo of X letter co-signed a letter alongside thousands of others including cognitive scientist Gary Marcus, Apple Co-founder Steve Wozniak that called for a six-month pause on the development of systems more powerful than that of GPT4.
Ferreira said a transparent system and open source will allow competition over philosophy and make users accountable for the decisions they have the power to make. “And you can have a lot of AGIs that can be even more intelligent than you, at least at the end of the day, you can choose whatever philosophy and way of thinking you want.
A decentralised marketplace for AI computation and AI-generated content, Fair Protocol was formerly using IPFS for its storage before switching to the Arweave Blockchain in its effort to not only be decentralised but also enjoy the permanent web at a cost effective rate.
Switching to Arweave is helping it to achieve much of what it set out to achieve in the AI industry.
Now fully integrated into the Arweave ecosystem, using projects such as Irys to make data upload fast and BazAR as a marketplace where users of Fair Protocol can sell AI generated contents, Ferreira said the project is composable.
He disclosed that there were plans to integrate Rareweave, another marketplace in the Arweave ecosystem and put its SDK on ArweaveKit which has all the tools developers need to build an application or protocol on Arweave.
