Oracles of Russian harm – by RedStone (Kyiv Tech Summit)

The team at RedStone Finance have submitted their latest project to the Kyiv Tech Summit hackathon. The project is called Oracles of Russian harm, which offers Russian invasion stats, made available on Ethereum, Aurora, Celo and any other EVM-compatible chain.

Oracles of Russian harm

Oracles of Russian harm provides statistics on the Russian invasion of Ukraine to any decentralised apps (dApps) on these chains. Via use of the Oracle, they can access both historical and current data that focuses on three key areas – Russian losses of personnel units, Individual refugees from Ukraine recorded across Europe, and the MOEX Russia Index. The data is available for any developers to utilise to build dApps and Web3 projects.

The problems that RedStone identified before deciding to launch the project were:

• Russian Officials manipulate stats to present the situation in Russia’s favour.
• No stats available on-chain to build products using reliable info about the invasion.
• No infra to create a new Oracle, based on public invasion info, to use in Smart Contracts.

According to the project’s submission page on the Kyiv Tech Summit hackathon site, RedStone’s inspiration to create it was as follows:

The Russian officials have been trying to manipulate official stats and present the situation on the front in favour of the attacking side, since the very beginning of the invasion of Russia on Ukraine. At the same time, no stats have been available on-chain to build Web3 products on top of reliable information related to the invasion.

But now they can simply integrate Oracles of the Russian harm.

How they work

RedStone’s Oracles are highly customisable, allowing developers to create their own Oracle with custom data feeds from any API they want (all that is needed is a URL and a JSON path). Oracles of the Russian harm was created via such customisation.

The Oracles utilise data from the following sources:

• Russian losses – The total losses of the Russian occupier (Oracles of Russian harm feed).
• Refugees – Ukrainian refugee statistics (Oracles of Russian harm feed).
• MOEX – Moscow Exchange and index that tracks the performance of the 50 largest and most liquid stocks across 10 sectors in Russia (Oracles of Russian harm feed).

Utility

According to the submission, RedStone believes that many real world use cases are viable, including, but not limited to, cases such as:

• Creating NFT collections based on stats delivered on-chain.
• Developing products and tokens to support Ukraine.
• Building interactive dashboards that allow visitors to donate and get involved in helping.

Fighting disinformation runs in the family

News of the submission come shortly after the team at Warp – the data driven smart contracts on Arweave – who stem from RedStone announced their own submission, a project aimed at being a decentralised way of fighting against fake news, and giving the power of final verdict back to the community. Warp’s Kyiv Tech Summit hackathon submission is called Q-Rate, and its main purpose is to address disinformation.
