Arweave Asia Summer Hackathon is Heating Up!
In the scorching heat of summer, what better way to find solace than to build? With the expansion of large-scale decentralised social projects, the demand for on-chain storage is growing rapidly. The storage market has also entered a new phase of development, with BNB launching Greenfield, Filecoin introducing FVM, and Arweave adopting a new model of "speeding up and reducing costs" in its 2.6 update.
The massive growth of the storage sector is a foregone conclusion, with a bright future ahead. However, the road is not without its challenges, primarily revolving around two key issues:
The price and capacity of on-chain storage
The scarcity of developers leading to a stagnant ecosystem
Furthermore, Arweave is dedicated to permanent storage, eliminating issues of expiration or data loss caused by flexible purchasing. Users and developers only need to purchase storage space once, ensuring a preservation period of at least 200 years, which is more than sufficient for both enterprise and personal storage needs.
Moreover, thanks to Arweave's unique data compression and bundling technology, known as Bundles, it is also possible to achieve cost-effective large-scale storage. This potential makes Arweave a promising candidate as a dedicated data storage layer. For example, the decentralised social project Lens partnered with Arweave, and it only cost less than $42 to process 100,000 transactions.

After designing a solution for large-scale permanent storage on Arweave, the ecosystem still faces the challenge of developer scarcity. In fact, this is a common problem across current Web3 projects. According to Developer Report, there are currently only around 7,000 full-time Web3 developers and 10,000 part-time developers. Furthermore, there are approximately 3,000 developers who attempt Web3 development but eventually give up, which is nearly half of the full-time developer count. The number of monthly active developers is only around 20,000.
The conversion of a significant number of traditional developers to Web3 has not been achieved, resulting in a scarcity of outstanding DApps and a vicious cycle leading to a stagnant ecosystem.
Focusing on the Arweave ecosystem, there are currently around 30 full-time developers. Of course, due to deviations in statistical measurement, the actual number of developers is likely to be an order of magnitude higher. However, the revealed fact is undeniable: there is a need to increase the number of developers.

PermaDAO is the most active DAO in the Arweave ecosystem in Asia. It consists of four guilds: Content Group, Events Group, Development Group, and Branding Group. Arweave SCP Ventures will be one of the main organizers of the hackathon, bringing their expertise in project funding and investment. TinTinLand, on the other hand, focuses on promoting the development of blockchain technology by providing cutting-edge tech news, technical courses, workshops, hackathons, startup competitions, and industry recruitment. They will also be one of the organisers of this event.
In addition, prominent developers from the Arweave ecosystem will personally teach and mentor participants, starting from the basics and providing guidance throughout the journey from 0 to 1 in the Arweave ecosystem.
Beyond the teaching aspect, there will be professional evaluations of the hackathon projects by experts from the Arweave ecosystem. Sam @Arweave and outprog @everVision will engage with participants from the perspective of founders to support the development of the projects.
Apart from the ecosystem evaluation panel, a community evaluation panel has also been set up, including projects such as Denglian, Rebase, SeeDAO, BuilderDAO, MoleDAO, AvatarDAO, WEB3 Research Institute, AFFLUX, 0xU, and LegalDAO. Additionally, there will be a media evaluation panel consisting of Foresight News, Odaily, Blocklike, Cointime, BlockBeats, PANews, MarsBit, Coinlive, and Golden Finance.
Finally, sponsors of the hackathon will have the opportunity to directly engage with the participating projects and will have a 40% weighting in the evaluation process. Due to limited availability, applications will undergo a review process.
